What is the difference between fibre and yarn?

Difference between Fibre & Yarn

Have you ever wondered how your clothes are made, or the comfortable carpet you are lying on, is created? We all have the basic knowledge of fabrics being weaved together to make clothes, but do you know how the fabric is created? It is super interesting to know how these daily used clothes, carpets, are made from scratch. And what role does fibre and yarn play in creating exceptional clothes? This page will acquaint you with the difference between fibre and yarn. Further, help you understand the process it goes through to make what you are wearing right now.

Fibre

Fibre is the raw material extracted from plants, trees, and other natural materials or may be produced from synthetic materials. It is notably longer than it is wide. It can fall into two categories: Natural fibre and man-made fibre. Natural fibres are recyclable as they are extracted from plants, animals, and geological processes. On the other hand, man-made fibres include the mixing of chemicals, structure and properties, which are modified during the manufacturing process. Man-made fibres create rayon, polyester, synthetic, acrylic, nylon, kevlar and spandex.

Yarn

Yarn is made by interlocking or intertwining fibre filaments together in long, parallel lengths. The twisting and interlocking of fibres along with the number of fibres in cross-section determine the strength and the thickness of the yarn. The optimum level of twisting will make the yarn stronger, and the low-intensity will make the yarn softer. Further, the yarns are spun into fabric through knitting and weaving. After the process of knitting and weaving the fabric, the clothes and other products are made.

The mix and match

When the fibre consists of man-made fibres and natural fibre, the yarn inherits the properties of both natural and synthetic. The Bulk Continuous Filament (BCF) yarns are created using combinations that are best suited for carpets and rugs. The synthetic properties make sure that the product is durable and inexpensive. In addition, it offers a range of bright and attractive colours that elevate the space. These rugs and carpets are then installed in residential, corporate and automotive spaces. They are extremely comforting and have resistant properties. Companies like AYM Syntex produce BCF yarns: polyester, Nylon 6, Polypropylene, and Polyester Microfiber yarns. AYM is one of the finest companies in India and is the leading manufacturer of BCF yarns.

There is a difference between fibre and yarn, but they are intricately connected to each other. When they are combined, fine cloth, rugs, carpets, and many other products are made. AYM Syntex  provides a wide range of yarns that will elevate your space, appearance, and at the same time, they are environmentally friendly.
